JAIME
Hello, my name is Jaime. I’m a buff and white male cocker spaniel, and my estimated DOB is 8/2/07 . Just when I was thinking my life was pretty sorry, Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue learned of my plight. A nice lady let them know that I had been chained to a tree 24/7 in the Texas heat with no water and shade. I was emaciated and covered in fleas. My coat was dull and patchy. I needed help!
Even though resources were stretched to the max, they couldn’t turn their backs on me. Everyone pulled together to get a release from my previous owners and bring me to safety. Was I ever happy to be given a drink of cold water and taken away in an air conditioned vehicle! When I reached my foster home I was given medication for the loads of fleas on me and after eating a sirloin burger, I fell asleep in my crate for the night.
The next few days brought a bath, a trim, and a visit to the vet. My ears and teeth are in good shape. My nails were very long, especially my dew claws, and these were all clipped by the vet. I have dry eye which is treatable by daily medicinal drops. I needed to be de-wormed for hookworms and roundworms. They also found that I am heartworm positive. The week I was scheduled to have my first heartworm injection, I became paralyzed. I was rushed to Texas A&M for back surgery on 1/14/12 (I had a blown disc), and I have recovered nicely. That said, I need a family to be sure I don't jump on or off furniture, as I will always be at risk for a similar injury in the future.
They let me recover from the surgery before getting me set up for the heartworm injections, and in running the bloodwork in late February, discovered that I have some kidney issues (likely secondary to my heartworm disease). Can you believe I've made it through all of this? I'm currently on meds and my foster family is monitoring me through it all, but this means frequent trips to my vet located in Houston. I'm hoping to find someone near by to give me a loving home so I can continue to be watched by the GCCSR vet.
Through all this healthcare I have been the best boy at the vet! I knew everyone was trying to help me so I took it all in stride without a whimper. They were surprised at what a sweet boy, given all that I went through at my previous home.
I'm very loving boy and I'm 100% potty trained. I like people, other dogs and cats too. Even though I love to play with dogs, I prefer if we're separated during feeding time. I don't like to share!
I have tons of love to give and I'm just waiting for the perfect family to love me back!
