JR
Hey there! My name is JR. I’m a 5 year old male buff and white cocker spaniel, about 25 lbs. I was rescued by Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue on the day I was scheduled to be put to sleep. It wasn’t a good time in my life. I had been hit by a car just before I was rescued but luckily I wasn’t severely injured. GCCSR took me in and gave me a second chance at life.
I have been away at doggie boot camp learning some good manners from the best trainer ever. She will tell you that I’m very good at lots of things – sit, stay, down, leave it, drop it, coming when called, playing ball, going in my crate when told, and I’m housebroken. I have learned to get along with other dogs though I like to make a racket just to test them out when I first meet them. I guess I want to make them think that I am in charge but I have been known to back down. If the dog reacts to my challenge, it could end up in a skirmish. We’re working on that. I do bark at cars & strangers until I get close enough to smell them & know that they are not a threat to me. Although I am working hard at conquering my socialization and behavioral issues, for the time being I need to be in a home without small children.
I’m embarrassed to say I sleep with my favorite toy, a squeaky basketball. I will bark until you put it in with me for the night. In general, I’m pretty vocal when I play. Sometimes my trainer calls me Grumpy because of my growls and grunts. She says I do extremely well inside the house. It’s just when I am taken out in public that I need to keep working on my social skills.

Did I mention that I have my own fan club on Facebook? I’m somewhat of a celebrity to those who follow GCCSR’s Facebook page. They all got quite a kick out of stories of my antics before I went into boot camp. Everybody loves me! How could they not? I’m an adorable scamp! Just look at my face!
I have my paws crossed for just the right human who will have the time and patience to continue to help me learn my manners. I do so want to be a good boy so I can have a happy, safe and loving forever home of my own.
