To All Our Rescue Angels~ We Believe Together We DO Make A Difference!

Thank you for visiting our page. This tells me that you have a big heart and a love for dogs.  So what can you do to help?? It took me a long time to realize that even if I couldn’t FOSTER a dog, I could be of use/service to a rescue organization.  It takes SO many things to enable it to  run and survive, including spreading the word, helping with fundraisers, finding donations for our upcoming silent auction, participating with other special projects, coming up with and helping execute new ideas to benefit the dogs and their welfare, various administrative tasks, etc.   So if you feel like you can help in any of THESE areas, PLEASE let us know.  Also, PLEASE don’t underestimate the ‘spreading the word’ function, or any of the other functions I’ve mentioned.  This is vital to our success and to get this up and running, so the more people you tell, the better.  You just never know when they may have a friend or relative in a situation where they are ready to adopt or foster a wonderful, deserving dog, or are able to help in some other way.  Additionally, we MUST generate some new foster spots before we can move forward.  Trust me when I say that there is no shortage of dogs needing help in our local shelters. Some of you may be surprised to find out that the average euthanasia rates range from 65-89% in the local shelters, INCLUDING the Humane Society and SPCA, so these dogs are dying on a daily basis (see http://www.examiner.com/x-43393-Houston-Animal-Shelters-Examiner~y2010m5d21-Fuzzy-math-at-kill-shelters) .  People turn in animals to shelters for ALL KINDS of reasons, including divorces, new babies, having to move, ‘it doesn’t match the furniture’, it barks, it digs, it had a litter of unwanted puppies, etc… thus leaving rescue groups responsible for trying to clean up the aftermath. But in order to do so, we must have homes for them to stay in while we work to find them their forever homes.

Come out and see the Wigglebutts and GCCSR Volunteers!!

Visit one of the finest indoor dog shows in America held in Houston's NRG Park. Along with breed judging and obedience, you'll discover agility dogs racing over obstacle courses, flyball teams hurdling to beat the clock, and four-footed athletes catching Frisbees and dancing to music.

Estimated at 6-7 years of age when he came to us shortly

after we formed in July 2010, we thought the biggest challenge we’d face with Lucky would be to find the resources he needed to undergo heartworm treatment. This beautiful, buff boy had been returned to Harris County Animal Control by the family of his deceased owner, as they couldn’t be bothered with him. Thankfully, we found the needed foster space and were able to raise the funds for his treatment, but not long after that we figured out that he has a chronic bronchial condition requiring daily meds and constant monitoring for the rest of his life. Furthermore, he is a ‘spirited’ little guy, aka mischievous, and he was returned to our program 3 times. After the increasing difficulty he had readjusting after the third return, his foster, decided she would never put him through that kind of trial again and promised him a place to live out the rest of his days for as long as he needed it. Lucky was our first inductee into the Forever Foster Hall of Fame, and despite his rotten nature, he brings a smile every day to his family’s face through his crazy antics,a few of which you can see here: http://secure.smilebox.com/ecom/openTheBox?sendevent=4d6a63324d7a6b314e6a56384e544d774d7a457a4f54673d0d0a7026sb=1

GCCSR has recently become a Network Partner of Best Friends Animal Society, headquartered in Kanab, Utah. Their motto is "No More Homeless Pets", and they've established a network of shelters and rescues who join in hopes of helping to attain that goal.

If you didn't know of Best Friends before, you may remember that some of Michael Vick's dogs went there for rehabilitation. Our first exciting venture with Best Friends is to participate in their Strut Your Mutt Fundraiser, which will take place in Houston on Saturday, 9/21. All of the proceeds we raise from this effort will directly benefit GCCSR, so please make plans now to join us on our walk. There's even a $10 registration option for a 'virtual' walker, for all of you who are physically unable to be there. Keep in mind, however, if you'd like a t-shirt, you need to register as an Adult Walker for $30.

We're hoping to raise at least $10,000 in this, our first year to participate!!

We are excited to be a part of this network. Together, we CAN save the lives of homeless pets. Did you know that every single day, more than 9,000 pets are killed in America's shelters simply because they don't have a home. Each one an individual. Each one a valued life worth saving. 9,000. That number should be zero. And it can be.

Best Friends Animal Society and local animal rescue organizations and shelters (No More Homeless Pets "Network partners"), are joining together to bring that number to zero. The donations raised through our Strut Your Mutt team will be used in our community to fund adoption programs and spay/neuter services, to ultimately impact the number of pets entering and leaving the shelters.

Please join us for this fun-filled event either by registering for our team or donating to one of our existing team members. Your donation is tax-deductible and our organization keeps 100% of the money raised. Together, and through your support, we can Save Them All!

CRICKET

Here is what Cricket's adoptive family has to say about her: We were a little nervous about taking Cricket to our sons' Christmas Eve party the very next day because there were going to be a lot of people and she was also meeting their dogs, Julie and Rolls.  But leaving her home alone was simply out of the question! Cricket was very well mannered and actually became the hit of the party!  Everyone just loved her!  She loves all her new toys, but the hot dog dressed as a reindeer is her very favorite.  She'll carry it from room to room, and when she gets tired of playing run and catch, she takes it to another room to let us know she is tired of playing.  Of course, the birds and squirrels are great entertainment, as we expected!  Thank you for bringing this bundle of absolute joy to our lives.  I wish you could see her playing and bounding up and down through the house.  She is home and knows it!

It doesn't get much better than this! :-D(especially when we take into consideration the fact that she was an owner surrender!! GOOD GIRL, Cricket!)

If you believe in our mission, please donate to The Hunter Fund, reserved for dogs with behavioral issues.  We never want to have to put a dog to sleep without first consulting with vets, behaviorists, neurologists and trainers to see if there's any feasi...ble way to help these little guys. BUT WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT.
We have two in great need of help in our program at the present time ~ we are desperate for loving, stable, knowledgable homes to work with them under the guidance of our trainers/vets... and we need money to pay for it all. Please help us... sometimes they CAN be saved, just like Hunter was:

Jennifer has lived in the Houston surrounding area all her life and currently resides in Houston with her husband, 2 kids and 3 dogs.  As an avid animal lover, she had always wanted to do something more. When she received word that there was a new group needing volunteers to help rescued cocker spaniels, something clicked and she knew that she needed to help. Officially the fist volunteer for GCCSR, she maintains the website for the group and has become a two-time member of the "foster failure club" adding Bella and Lady to her family.  Having experienced first hand the joy that working with rescue brings, she hopes to continue saving animals in need for a long time to come.
